2/5 ⭐⭐

It’s a vacation none of them will forget. Before their futures become the present, Noah convinces his friends they need a group vacation—a final play before they’re all tied down by responsibility and unyielding schedules.Everything is changing.

Marriage.

Kids.

Careers.

A trip to Fiji is the last hurrah to end all hurrahs. And from disastrous marriage proposals to grand gestures to life-changing confessions, two weeks on a private island becomes the beginning of the rest of their lives.

Why am I here? No, seriously, why are we here right now because it can’t be because of *gestures widely* this.

Ok fine.

Final Play is not the ending I was expecting. This is meant to be a grand finale to the previous lives of all the guys we got to read about in the previous five books but what it ends up being is a collection of side stories to what we have already read. This isn’t a new trip, its a remix on the one we got to witness in Soren and Jet’s story. Which. Fine. But we don’t really learn anything new here.

For example, in the previous story we learn the Noah and Matt (MCs of Trick Play: Fake Boyfriend 2) are about to adopt a child on top of one of Matt’s (and Jet’s) brothers. Now, while it was interesting to see why he ended up moving in with them it isn’t exactly life changing information as the reason was clearly covered in Matt and Noahs own story. There we learned that Matt has crap parents who are racist, homophobic, and just downright toxic as parents. They told Matt that he wasn’t allowed to return once he graduated and kicked Jet out for being gay. So with that logic did we really need to waste precious trees to let us know that his parents are the literal worst in this series?? Heck, we didn’t even have a scene with Noah’s parents and they were actually featured in their story.

Reading the previous story will tell you everything you need to know about what is happening here, which is depressing, as these guys deserve one final hurrah as they enter a new path in life. They are retiring, becoming parents, entering new careers, and starting new relationships. They deserve to have this moment to really reflect on how far they have come and to celebrate that. But this wasn’t it. This was a hodgepodge of short stories that didn’t go anywhere and was another excuse to write vanilla smut.
